Etude pour Vitrail is an abstract composition based on transverse coulures. It is the rhythm of this liquid flowing back and forth across the canvas that sets the tone for the composition. Between the lines, a stained-glass-like filling of colors contained in these “metal partitions”. Among the shapes, human silhouettes are still visible, less obvious, less present in the scene. An artist friend of mine, now deceased, immediately named this canvas, which he saw in progress, “Etude pour vitrail” (Study for stained glass), and I kept this suggestion, which seemed to me to be an obvious one.
